Community Development Trust Fund (CDTF), Tanzania

Dar Es Salaam, TanzaniaBased in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, the Community Development Trust Fund (CDTF) is an organisation dedicated to supporting children with albinism, blindness and low vision at Pongwe Primary School. Low vision is a condition caused by eye disease and cannot be corrected or improved with eyeglasses.

The Emirates Airline Foundation financed the construction of new dormitories for 58 students, as well as medical support including reading glasses, anti-UV skincare ointment, hats and the enrolment of 87 students into the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

Upon completion of the dormitory construction in 2017, an inauguration ceremony was held and attended by Honorable Selemani Jaffo, Minister of State Region Administration and Local Government.

“At the inauguration ceremony for the dormitories the students sang a song of thanks to the audience – everyone wept. It was beautiful and very touching,” said Mr Henry Mgingi, Executive Director of CDTF.

The foundation also supported the purchase of a new van for the school. The van seats eight people and serves to improve the transport services for students offered by the school.

Looking into the future, CDTF intends to implement other projects which will ease the students learning process such as provision of school uniforms, Braille machines and other teaching and learning materials for the students with albinism, low vision and blindness.
