Transforming lives with surgical care: Facing the World

Children born with complex craniofacial conditions in developing countries often have little hope, and face being shunned by their communities. Recognising this, the founders of Facing the World, a UK registered medical charity, is creating sustainable solutions to support these children.

The charity trains local surgical teams, delivers multidisciplinary surgical treatments, and donates necessary equipment. The Emirates Airline Foundation has supported Facing the World over the years, sponsoring travel for a number of craniofacial surgery missions in Vietnam.

Most recently the foundation sponsored the travel of three medical professionals for advanced training at SickKids Hospital in Toronto. Plastic surgeon Vu Ngoc Lam, neurosurgeon Nguyen Trong Yen and anaesthetist Nguyen Truong Tho, travelled with Emirates from Vietnam to Canada, thanks to Skywards Miles donated to the Emirates Airline Foundation.

“Thanks to this fellowship experience, my colleagues and I’ve had the chance to learn in the world’s best hospitals specialising in craniofacial surgery. What we’re doing really changes the lives of the children we serve in Vietnam, and transforms their future,” said Dr Lam.

If you would like to help support future missions, you can donate your Skywards Miles to the Emirates Airline Foundation. Skywards Miles donations are used to allocate tickets to doctors and volunteer professionals travelling on humanitarian missions around the world.
