Australian Doctors for Africa: making a difference in orthopaedic care

Australian Doctors for Africa (ADFA) carried out another successful mission to Ethiopia and Somaliland in support of their ongoing work to carry out sustainable development in hospitals across Africa, delivering training programmes and advanced orthopaedic care for patients in need. During this mission, they a provided a series of training programmes, orthopaedic surgeries and installed new equipment for hospitals including the regional hospital in Hawassa, the Felegihiwot General Hospital in Bahir Dar and the Black Lion Hospital in Addis Ababa.

The mission delivered screenings and specialist surgery for 19 patients in need, as well as provided training to local doctors and staff in orthopaedic surgical techniques, plastering and physiotherapy. C-Arm imaging devices (pictured below) were installed at the Black Lion Hospital and at the hospital in Hawassa, these were donated from ADFA.
